ILOCOS SAYS: 10 Random Thoughts I had in Ilocos

As a treat for my 31st birthday, I decided to finally go for a solo trip to the North. Last Thursday, after having lunch with my brother, I then went on a journey to Luzon.

For today's entry, here are another 10 Random Thoughts of an awkward traveller after a long travel hiatus due to the pandemic.

BREATHE.
It's the freest thing to do. Pinaka-basic (basic-kest?

When things are overwhelming, taking a breath loosens things up. It frees your chest, lungs, muscles ug uban pa.

Ayaw pagdali. Inhale sa... sa malawom...
as if ba nagpacheck-up ka or nagpa-Xray ba kaha.

Ug labaw sa tanan, as we breathe,

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. - Psalm 150:6

TRY AGAIN

2 years ago, I was commissioned to do a painting of a sunset, pambackground sa heron figurine. That was the last painting I did nga nahuman jud nako. I did another one, a Koi painting pero wa nako nahuman, and I called it "Unfinished Business". The next attempts were watercolor paintings and same... unfinished.

When we arrived sa Pagudpod at 1pm, I was instantly drawn to view of the beach... Surprisingly, it looks familiar. Siyempre, di jud 100% exactly the same... but the rocky beach and surrounding mountains automatically reminded me of that painting. Who would've thought I'll be able to be in a place that I only imagined 2 years ago.

I failed to take a sunset picture (and failed to take a dip as well kay nakatulog ko 😭😭), but I woke up the next morning to this beautiful sunrise telling me, it's time to take that brush again...

Let's try again πŸ˜‰.
(☺ dramaha ani ba)

DON'T BURN BRIDGES

Connections... while some are healthy, some needs to be disconnected. Labi na when it's toxic and unhealthy sa atong heart, mind, body and soul.
But when disconnecting, is it really necessary to burn bridges?

Sitting on this barricade, I thought...
Why burn when I can just close it?
Here are my reasons why iclose na lang:

• To avoid scars/pollution
🀭 burning sounds like there too much hatred, mess and pain. (Insert Zach Tabudlo: Masakit kahit walang nanakit 🎢🎢). I can't imagine accidentally coming across someone nga gisunugan na nakog tulay and then picture a ruined piece of agriculture (joke lang, Architecture bitaw). Di ba? Okay naman ka, why grudge beh?

• When necessary (in case necessary lang jud), basin diay you encounter a similar situation, pwede ra pod marevisit ang barricade sa bridge, pang-RRL (Review of Related Lessons). Bakit sinara? Anyare, beh?

• For a possible repair. Basin diay maybe. Naay mausab nga change πŸ˜…. We may not be able to 100% revert to ang nakaraan, but we can be civil and give chance for a fresh start. Abe pa lang pusong bato ta. We're called to forgive sad baya and in the process, have peace with ourselves.

• 1Cor13:4-5. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs...
   - how are we suppose to love when we already burned bridges? πŸ™„ 🎀🎀🎀 Mic Drop... bammm

KEEP CALM

Kung asa man ka karon, there's still a long way ahead of you. Longer than this 1.3 km Patapat Bridge pa jud... so keep calm and be exactly where you are! Enjoy your season

Nagtoo mog taas nig caption? KALMA! Mao ra juy point ani.

IT'S OKAY

Explore. Try new things. Meet new people.
It's okay to make mistakes sometimes
(ayaw lang pod pakasala, of course 🀭)

It's okay to travel solo or by group (di ra prerequisite nga by pair, di ni xa ballroom)
It's okay to talk to strangers and listen to their stories...
It's okay to stutter when talking. Okay ra jud masayop ug grammar or mahirapan sa kalisod sa tagalog. Okay ra magloading
It's okay to laugh at corny dad jokes, or cry out of frustrations, nganong di man aq nakadiscover ani nga joke? πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£
It's okay to have own conference meeting with self πŸ˜…πŸ€£
It's okay to have tired days
It's okay to have hyper days
It's okay to be carefree.
It's okay... it's okay...

Everything's okay.

GO, GET INSURED!

Hold on! Life is bumpy ride!
Riding on a 4x4 in our Sand Dunes Adventure, we couldn't help but shout sa kakuyaw sa ride. Bumpy na, naa pay slopes nga makabilin ug kalag.

Mapanakit na ride that all of us were already complaining as we bump side to side. Pero katawa ra gihapon. Nasakitan na gani, katawa ra gihapon πŸ™„ (Insert Oh Caraga: Gahig'O... gahig'o 🎢🎢)
One even joked na basin nawala na iyang ribs. I was already thinking about reviewing my policy 🀦‍♀️πŸ˜‚. Someone must be thinking the same kay the next thing kay we laughed harder when someone said, "Covered naman to ng insurance, di ba?"
πŸ˜…πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

Cliche as it sounds but, life is a bumpy ride.

P.S. Financial Advisor friends, feel free to comment your deets, basin naay reader mukuhag policy... πŸ˜…

GIVE YOUR INNER CHILD A TREAT

If there's a sorbetes capital of the country (maybe there is pero wa ko kabalo where), I'd say Vigan is the place to be. Sorbetero here, sorbetero there, sorbeteros everywhere and sino ba naman ako to refuse the child in me.

In an age na Mr. DIY, Daiso and Japan Homes are considered happy place, deserve po nating sumaya with little things like Dirty Icecream.

A happy inner kid brings out energy to an introverted tita like me.

We may have different backgrounds, but I'm sure that you're inner child also deserves a treat.

BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE

It's not enough to just enjoy your season! You also need to bloom.

If you're a tree, bear fruit.

If you're a fruit, be a fruit salad... ganern... πŸ˜…

Kidding aside... you're not planted in that season just to enjoy. To enjoy is part of it, yes but only when you bloom and bear fruit will you multiply.

So whichever season you are in right now, bloom there.

If you're single, galingan mong maging single. Wag marupok.

If you're married, galingan mong maging husband/wife. You are building a family and a community.

If you're a student, galingan mong maging student. All your hardships will pay off when finally, ginalive na nimu imong profession.

TRUST YOUR GUIDE

πŸ””Fun Fact: "Kapurpurawan" means white in Ilocano language.

Going to Kapurpurawan Rock Formation, tourist are offered to ride on a horse. (Haciendera feels)

On our way back from the rock formation, gipadagan sa guide ang kabayo 🐎🐎🐎

And being the Pentium 1 Roseby that I am, I was too speechless. I just held my breath, fliptopped in my head and nagpatawag ug urgent conference meeting.

Me1: Ingna si Kuya, slow down...

Me2: unsaon pagtranslate sa tagalog?

Me3: weeeh... mura tag naa sa historical k-drama... hiyaaah

Me1: kuyaw man

Me2: reminder pd dai, you're writing guides for a living.

Me1: Ok. Meeting adjourned.

I trust you!" CHAAAAARRR πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜… JOOOKEEEE!!!

Gitagalog sad nako, in the end, nakatranslate ra sad q... "Ok lang kuya! Kaw na bahala. Kabisado mo naman. Tiwala lang po!"

πŸ˜…πŸ€£ Taasa sa chika, but the point is Guides exist to help us better experience things. We are called to respond with trust. Karon, if naa tay trust issues... lisod jud πŸ˜”, mahaba-habang conference meeting yan. For you nga naay trust issues, I pray for your healing and I pray that may your trust to God erase all your doubts.

BE A LIGHT

Matthew 5:16

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Amazing how everywhere I travel, I'm reminded to be a light. Magsuot na guro kog flashlight headband sunod.

Everything we do reflects the love we have received that allowed us to love in return. And by loving, we shine and glorify The One who taught us to love.

Di ra baya required ang mahalon nga skin care to glow and shine.
