Book of the Moment: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

Finally, I’m back to being a bookaholic again. Oh, I miss reading stuff and I hate that my work is one of the main reasons I can’t finish a book. Anyways, my book for the moment is Michael Scott’s series The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas. Yeah, the name is familiar. You might want to check it out in Wikipedia or review your knowledge of Harry Potter’s first book The Sorcerer’s Stone. Nicholas Flamel is the Alchemist who created the sorcerer’s stone. So, enough on the review-of-related-literature part, let’s get the part about Michael Scott’s series.

The truth is I really haven’t heard of this book until December. There was some little fuss about the Christmas wish list for upcoming Christmas party and I was one of those who didn’t submit a wishlist because honestly, I really didn’t know what I wanted for Christmas so while my officemates were filling up their lists of t-shirts and bags, I searched the web. I thought, I wanted a book this time.  I was actually looking for Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist book at National Bookstore’s online shop when Michael Scott’s Book One of the series entitled “The Alchemist” popped up on the search results and Alas! There goes Michael Scott’s Book One on my wish list.

It’s amazing how wishes do come true from a simple wish list. I actually got the book and surprisingly, as told by the one who gave me, it was the last copy in the bookstore. Amazing!!!

The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel is actually about Nicholas Flamel and his wife keeping the Book of Abraham The Mage and how they lived so many years to keep and protect it against evil Elders and to fulfill the prophecy of the next heir to the book who are modern kids Sophie and Josh Newman, a twin who are destined to save the world.

The story is fascinating and full of actions and magic. You’ll be informed on mythical creatures that you haven’t heard before and there’s a series of events that would captivate readers and keep them from holding the book still no matter what. True Story. I read it while I’m on a ship on a trip home. I was just there on my deck reading the book without caring about the slow sways.

As for the moment, I am now on Book Two, “The Magician”. I’m not yet done with the story but I know that it will be a lot more exciting than Book One which is why I’m excited to grab a copy for the next books.

It has five books all in all and 3 are some lost stories which make it eight books in total. The five books are The Alchemist, The Magician, The Sorceress, The Necromancer and the Warlock. It sure is long and it’s going to take a long time before I finish them all but it sure is worth it.
