The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Premiere Night

"So you would think that at this moment, I would be in utter despair. Here’s what’s strange. The main thing I feel is a sense of relief. That I can give up this game. That the question of whether I can succeed in this venture has been answered, even if that answer is a resounding no. That if desperate times call for desperate measures, then I am free to act as desperately as I wish." --Suzzanne Collins, Catching Fire—

I have to say now that I’m now a certified Collins Fan. I have watched and loved the first movie and now totally hooked with the trilogy after watching Catching Fire last night. The movie was action packed that I can already imagine how more amazing it is in the book. (BTW, haven’t read them all yet) Of course, just like the other book series turned movie (i.e. Harry Potter, LOTR, Twilight), the book of course contains everything the movies can’t show.

Before watching the movie, my question was WHAT’S WITH ALL THE FIGHTER OUTFITS AS IF THEY’RE BE THROWN TO THE ARENA ONCE MORE? It all made sense when President Snow made it obvious how he despises Katniss for being the inspiration of the on-going revolution by other districts. Well, although it was quite obvious in the ending of the first movie that a revolution is about to arise after Katniss and Peeta were able to threaten the whole Hunger Games tradition with their little love drama of eating the poison berries. I have to say that it was quite smart. Sometimes I wonder, what could’ve happen if P.Snow didn’t believed that drama.
New characters were introduced. All of them are the victors for the past 74 years and for the 75th year, along with the arising of revolution, all victors from all districts were stripped off of their victor names and are to be thrown again into the arena for a historical Hunger Games. It is exciting of course since we will get to see Katniss and her bow and arrows in action again but it’s kind of annoying for P. Snow to do.

With regards on Peeta and Gale rivalry as Katniss’ love interest, I have to say that it’s confusing. It’s not really that easy to choose who is best for her. It’s so unlike picking Edward Collen over Jacob for Bella on Twilight or choosing Prince Maxon over Aspen for America in The Selection Trilogy. Part of me wants her to stick with her hometown boy Gale but also part of me wants her to give Peeta a chance.

My Favorite Parts

Katniss' costumes are still epic. I have to say that the designers and Collins really did a great job in having the idea and turning it into something very awesome.

Nothing beats the Legendary Force Field destruction. It’s the most exciting part that will leave you hanging when the movie ends.

What to Expect?
Catching Fire is action filled and we are surely to expect more in the final movie next year. J

P.S. Thanks to Sun Star Plus and Special that I was given the opportunity to be one of the first viewers of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire during the premiere night held at SM Cinema Cebu last November 20, 2013. I won 2 tickets after joining their FB giveaway which is to post a quote from the book which can be related to what Philippines is currently facing these days after being hit by consecutive calamities from the magnitude 7 earthquake to the horrible effects of Typhoon Yolanda. The premiere night was sponsored by Campbell institute and NUC and was attended by Cebu Red Cross Heads. This premiere showing is for the benefit of the Yolanda victims. NUC displayed their products and Campbell advertised their school. Donations were also given to Red Cross for the additional expenses of relief and hygienic goods for the victims.
