THE BLURB

Do you believe in karma? Materialistic, selfish estate agent Siena Robinson doesn’t – until she hits a disastrous run of bad luck that makes her wonder if she has brought it upon herself.

In Instant Karma, Siena moves to the quiet village of Fenville, where the locals are opposing a development that will see a beloved hall and library replaced by new flats and shops. What her neighbours don’t know is that she is one of the developers and stands to make millions from the deal.

But then Siena discovers that her high-school sweetheart, Aiden, is leading the protest and she finds herself acting as a double agent who is torn between her neighbours’ plight and making lots of money.

Will Siena betray her new friends and let greed ruin a second chance with Aiden? And will she ever find out who or what is behind her run of bad karma?

MY THOUGHTS

I have to say that I was mad with the main character, Sienna, about 60% the whole time I was reading it. She was a complete picture of a b*tch(coughs) who doesn't care about anyone. A complete selfish girl. But every person has their story, even the wicked ones(like all the villains with painful past) and this one is Siena's and she deserves to explain her side of the story like Maleficent did(oopps..I'm getting off-topic).

The story is fast paced but it gradually narrates how Sienna changed from being selfish, money-eater and liar to someone who actually cares. It shouts the lesson "EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON" and "WE GET WHAT WE DESERVE". It was so easy to connect to Sienna. Maybe it's because she represents most modern women these days(let's face it girls, we do have nasty attitude sometimes and we're so insensitive to notice it. SOMETIMESSS) somehow

The revelation about Mrs. North's true identity and Stacie's unexpected connection to all the chaos was completely a surprise to me. I didn't expect them at all. And all these things just revealed when the library is about to be torn apart and her newly house burning and everyone in Fenville hating her. Wow! That was a total chaos.
Wait!! Let me absorb it all!!

I admire Oldfield's way of stitching it all together. The romance was not swooning but it was still okay. Aiden is just the perfect guy for Sienna. He completes her. He is everything Sienna needs in order to make her life right. I like the character development and there is indeed a consistency of it. It's the type that you would easily identify the characters(who's talking or who did this and that.

  2. Gaba! Makakulba much jud Lai! Hahaha.. Reading this just taught me to be very careful with everything we do. Sometimes, we are so focus with our own goals that we tend to take other people for granted.

    1. I think this one is going to be a nice reference for your book Fortune Misfortune. It's totally the complete opposite of it. haha.. :)

  4. The plot seems nice but that bitchy main character no. I mean, character development is ok but 60% is kinda late in the book in my opinion. Lovely review though and I like the new appearance of the blog! :D

    1. Haha.. I can relate to that girl. I used to be mean with my groupmates in college especially during our thesis. It sucks that I had to be a leader to a group of careless boys and I'm the only girl. Urrggh.. One time, I walked out and ignored them all. The next day, two of them were in my doorstep. Ha-ha...

  6. I'm glad this ended up being a really enjoyable read, with lots of surprises and unexpected revelations!
Sienna, however, turns me away from wanting to read this, personally. I have a real trouble being able to read about characters who are just purely selfish and mean to get what they want, and she sounds like that.
Glad it turned into a positive read for you, Ima! xx

    1. Indeed Sienna is like that. I think, circumstances turned her into that. I'm glad there was U-turn.
