MY THOUGHTS:
I've always been a lover of fantasy and adventure stories ever since I met Harry Potter back in grade school. This is my second fantasy read this year after reading Michael Scott's The Magician. I can't believe it was published 1998. Why haven't I read this before? Well, I know that there was a movie produced 2007 but I haven't watched it then.
I love how Gaiman have built this world beyond the Wall. The Wall makes it sound scary at first. I mean "The Wall", the name itself reminds me of the White Walkers beyond the Wall in Game of Thrones. Anyways, the world he created was wonderful and unique. Every creature beyond the wall seemed to be cursed and there seems to be no breaking it.
*A mouse to eat Nut of Wisdom in order to return to being a Prince.
*An owl to eat a mouse who ate a Nut of Wisdom in order to return to its true form.
*A lady chained and enslaved by a witch only to be free when the moon loses her daughter and when there comes 2 mondays.

Anyway, Tristan Thorn is an amazing character. He's smart and funny and well, a bit silly. Why did he ever believed everything Victoria promised him. It's such a pity. Well anyway, he would've never met Yvainne and his real mother if it weren't because of Victoria's silly challenges.
The failed attempts of the Stormhold brothers and the witches to capture Yvainne were epic and it only led them to their death. It's funny how aggressiveness and greed for power can just led us to our own end.
Tiny people singing, little hairy man with unlimited supplies from his bag(Sounds like Doraemon), unicorns, trees talking, flying ships, goats turning to human, angry forest and more. This story is indeed packed of exciting adventure, not to mention words to learn. Now, let's go grab our dictionaries and hunt down these words...

It.Sounds.Amazing! I'm actually reading The Graveyard Book by this author and enjoying it so far! This one is on my TBR and look forward to reading it and watching the movie after. :) Great review!

DeleteGreat review Roseby :) i wanted other aspects of this book to be expounded maybe that's why i end up only giving it a 3/5 based on my personal reading experience and that i didn't take too kindly to what happened to the effin' poor unicorn >_< and the queen witch only got a slap on the wrist so to speak...i'm not such a forgiving reader (i think) hehehe.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you just have high standards.. hehe.. I'm a sucker to fantasy and adventure so I think that's one of the things that pushed me for 5. Blame it Rowling and Tolkien.. :)
DeleteI haven't read anything by Neil Gaiman. I know, I'm a loser. I don't know... I used to think that his works are too deep for my taste. But after reading this review, I feel like giving it a chance. Great review, Vee. :)
ReplyDeleteYou'll be surprised that Stardust is not that deep. It's only 90 pages in my pdf reader. There were parts that are not expounded. Parang sinummarized lang specially sa may last part but I still love it. :)
